I always love finding people's playlists in iTunes Music Sharing... what kind of music do you listen to at work? Classical/Pop/Techno?
Also, what volume do you play it at? Loud to drown everyone out or just audible so that you can still hear that cubicle drone? |

| I listen to mainly house music... usually with the purpose of drowning out the people with annoying voices. |

I love listening to 80s power ballads. I don't listen to them in my free time, but when I'm working nothing gets me going like Journey's Don't Stop Believin', Survivor's - Can't Hold Back or Celine Dion - It's All Coming Back to Me.
OK, I'm going to stop talking now. |

| I used to like listening to Dave Matthews Band, I guess it's good background music when he's just yelling and screaming and babbling. Now I listen to more U2, guess I'm getting older. |

What is the policy for listening to music (using headphones) while you're at the client? I have had a Sr. Manager tell me that you shouldn't do it at all, but then the project i'm on now a Sr. Manager listens to MLB games during the evenings while at the client in the evening.
Options:
1. Listen at any point of the day
2. Only after 5pm
3. Never while at the client
Your thoughts? |

At least on my client site, it's:
1. Any time of the day (provided that you are not in a meeting)
Listening to music helps me drown out noise and concentrate. Typical sites:
www.di.fm; www.mostlyclassical.com
I do find it annoying, however, that they took away WinAmp... For those sites, Media Player doesn't get the higher speed streams. What are my alternative options? |

| iTunes has some good radio stations. You can't install any version of WinAmp since they removed it? I bet someone here has probably figured out how to hack it to work. |

Best player out there IMHO is foobar2000. Does everything I want it to and about a few thousand other things besides. Very lean, so it gets good rates on streaming, but you can configure it to do absolutely anything you want it to do. |

I dont think there is any policy regarding listening to music to client sites. Just use your own judgement. Dont play it too loud so that you cant hear when someone calls you.. Definately dont sing along.....
I like listening to iTunes radio. Their vocal trance station is awesome. |

Can you elaborate? How'd they take away WinAmp? |

I always keep one earbud in to drown out the client-site morons while at the same time being able to hear the SM yelling at me about that deliverable which wasn't done and probably wont be.
Also, obscure german music is the way to go. For some reason a nosey/bored BA will always steal away my ipod and start listening, only to be greatly disappointed and often frightened.
Carrying around a Hunter S. Thompson novel will get you the same reaction:
"Songs of the Doomed: More notes on the death of the American dream... are you a communist?"
"Yes, you filthy capitalist swine" |

Haha. Nice strategy.
I tend to put on headphones whenever I am doing work that requires serious focus or when it's utterly monotonous (read: data entry). Too often, it's the latter. |
