I'm surprised this hasn't been blogged about here yet. Today Deloitte laid off dozens of people in the Seattle, San Francisco, and O.C. offices. Rumors that it was U.S. wide, I am yet to confirm, but I know for sure those three offices have experienced layoffs. It's a bit disheartening to see friends get laid off, especially if they're on a work visa. A friend was informed today was her last day. Unfortunately, she was one of those people who required work visas. |

| I believe its only AERS. It ranged from a 1st year all the way up to Sr. Manager. And yes, I do know a Sr. Manager in Audit that was laid off. |

Does it concern the Audit practice or the ERS practice (Internal Audit ? Control Assurance ?).
I am supposed to begin in Control Assurance soon and I am quite worried !
Thanks |

| There were many layoffs today....i'm from a very small office and they laid off at least 4 ppl that i know of, 2 directly from my team. It was a very sad day and they still made us work until 9:30 after saying goodbye to our coworkers! I heard that the layoffs are nationwide and across all service groups. Many from CA, NV, DC...even Charlotte. |

| It's nationwide - mostly from financial audit, but also quite a few from ERS. Of course, no partners are affected (yet), but with the projected low growth in audit, the partners from consulting and tax will demand that some of the 'fat' is cut from the partner ranks. |

| What departments are these taking place in? And has everyone been notified yet--it the whole process complete? How about if some people have found out in a department, does that mean no one else in that department is included? |

Its not just AERS, they are letting go of people across the board.

Global accounting firm Deloitte & Touche LLP this week began layoffs that will reduce the 45,000-strong U.S. staff by "slightly less than 2%," a company spokesperson said Wednesday.
Layoffs will occur across all departments and offices of the firm.
"Part of the plan is to rightsize our headcount according to current and projected revenues," spokesperson Deborah Harrington said in an e-mailed statement. "Like our competitors, we are affected by a number of economic events, including the overall slowdown in the U.S. and global economies."
Harrington said Deloitte, like many other financial services firms, reduces its workforce annually to "meet the needs of our clients," but did not say how this year's cut compares to typical downsizings. Harrington said the reductions aren't being made based on performance reviews.
Harrington said the firm is hiring in other departments and said the U.S. staff at the company has increased by "several thousand" over the last few years.
