What are some of your craziest alt-travel stories? Especially interested in any creative ways to fund weekend debauchery  |

I'm not sure if this is even my best one, but this one shocks my friends the most. One weekend, on a whim a few friends and me flew to Tokyo for a weekend. Tokyo is like Times Square on steroids + 10 yrs in the future + Japanese people who aren't taking photos.
We shinkansened in to Kyoto and stayed at the frickin' Westin. The most beautiful vistas of luscious countryside, great continental food (we even broke into the kitchen and jacked as much free food as necessary).
All in all an amazing trip, didn't break the bank and we were back in town on Monday morning on time for work.

West Coast to the Southern Caribbean (used several days of PTO to make a full vacation out of it). It was a helluva a flight. Red-eye / overnight to the East coast, then 5hr morning flight due South to tropical paradise.
Anyone ever done Africa or Southeast Asia? |

Similar stories - was doing weekly transcons for an extended period of time, so instead of heading back east I made weeekends in Bangkok and Hong Kong - totally worth burning the upgrades. |
