Just wanted your opinion on a possible transfer from AERS to DC. Of course I have not reached out to my current managers or partners etc... and I’m not saying that I have been offered a transfer. I have just gone through a bit of career coaching and found that I would be “happier” working on projects that are out in the DC realm (whatever that means?).

I have been with D&T for 4+ years, I am currently a Senior Consultant, and up for a manager role this summer. I have a CompSci/Engineering Degree from a solid school and I have worked in CA (business processes, internal controls, GCC’s, audit help etc...) to date. I am a high performer and have been rated a solid 1 or 2 (with one occasional B.S. 3 here & there). So I enjoy the AERS work...but I am sick of the audit/accounting roles.

Couple of burning questions:
- What roles, service lines, or areas would I fit into in DC?
- Am I well suited for a transition to DC given my D&T experience and background?
- Would I have to give up the Senior title, or even forget about being a manager, given the possible transition?
- Am I going to get “kicked in the shins” with regards to pay?

Are you looking to get into Business or Business Technology? I'm on the IT side currently and based on your background would say you'd be a good fit for here, but you lack the relevant work experience. That being said, you have the client experience that most people with the work experience lack so maybe a bit of training is all it would take. That's something you'd have to discuss with a partner at the office you're trying to switch to since they would most likely have to back you for such a switch (something your counselor could most likely arrange). As far as "title" goes, you would almost certainly have to wait another year or two to make manager if you switched practices. AFAIK DC actually averages higher pay than AERS so you would most likely be looking at keeping your current salary or possibly getting a raise. Again, all things you would discuss during the formal switching process. I would take a look at the different "paths" available in DC through the corp website to try to align yourself to one and then, with your counselor, find a partner in that area at the office you'd like to be at and talk to him/her about it. Hope that helps!

Thank you very much! TI seems like a good fit if I look into such a career move.

Anyone other thoughts?
