| Ever since I started traveling, my in-flight beverage of choice has been orange juice, no ice. And ever since airlines started getting stingy with the drinks (i.e., stopped giving the can from which the drink was poured) I decided I may as well maximize my beverage-intake by ordering drinks sans ice. (Besides, I have the unhealthy habit of chewing on ice) So I was understandably peeved this morning when, after requesting my usual, I received about 8 chunks of it in my drink. I don't know why, but I nearly had a mental breakdown. This broke my routine in such a sharp and personal way that my mind couldn't cope or answer questions like "Should I demand another glass of orange juice with no ice?" I was seriusly on the verge of throwing a fit and demanding orange juice with no ice; the phrase "stupid bitch" was in there somewhere. Alas, I didn't. Instead, I reluctantly downed my drink, hating every cube of ice in my cup, then started writing this post. |

I agree with you that monday morning's are the toughest - facing all the stresses of packing (never gets easier for me), hellish commutes to the airport, flight delays and gate changes and then showing up trying to look like a million bucks - I think the fact that we do this Sisyphean task in itself justifies our large per-hour charge |

By the time Monday roles around I'm ok with everything.
I had a hard time on Sundays. It seems like all of Sunday goes to doing laundry, packing, and dreading the alarm clock going on at 4:30a so you can catch the 6:00a flight. You have to worry about "Did I book my flight?", "Will the cab show up on time?", "Did I remember to pack everything?", "What kind of shit is going to be pushed at me this week?".
By the time I get through security and am sitting at the gate, I feel pretty relaxed. |

| For me, Monday mornings are always cool. We get to do out Department meeting at 8:30 pm. We plan for the week and get updates on the previous week's activities. Then You get to talk about how "Fun" your weekend was. |

I've started doing everything I can to get a few extra minutes in bed on Monday morning. This includes shaving the night before and even putting a tea bag in the cup before I go to bed.
Anyone else have any good tips for getting a few extra minutes in bed on a Monday morning? |

That seems pretty extreme. I just suck it up and sleep on the way to the airport in my stretch limo. Did I say limo? I meant taxi. |

If you like the smell of bacon in the morning and you don't have a butler, just lay out some strips in your george foreman and plug it in when you wake up.
and it's healthy for you! |

Haha... nice reference to The Office.
I just have all of my shit ready to go when I wake up Mon. morning. I'll start the day off by taking a car service to the airport (I've got some songs on my iPod I play to try to help me forget how early it is) and think about the week ahead.
When I get to the airport I take a "Best of Breed" approach to my food; that is I'll buy my coffee from Starbucks and an Egg McMuffin from McD's (Let's not talk about how McD's is "Best of Breed").
Finally I head to the gate area, read a newspaper, and try to be the first on the plane when they board so I can throw my roller bag and my laptop bag in the overhead bin. |

I pack up all my gear Sunday night so I don't have to do it in the morning. I'm up at 545am, out the door at 620am and usually get to Penn Station at around 645am. I get on Amtrak and promptly pass out for the entire 2hr 30min ride upstate. By the time I get to the hotel it's after 10am so I'll check in, take my gear upstairs, unpack, freshen up, change and get to the office before 11am. The best thing ever is wearing sweats and a hoodie instead of a stiff shirt.
I normally don't do any actual work until about 4pm on Mondays. |

That's early. Tuesday at noon is when I really start working. By Wednesday afternoon I'm spent.

I'm spoiled rotten. In seven and a half years of travel, I've never had to pack my bag. My wife does it for me.
As for tips to make Mondays a bit easier, I sleep every moment I can. The beverage service is simply not worth remaining conscious for. |

I have a seperate set of anything that I need to use on Monday monring and need to pack. Then my bags sit completely packed by the front door, my clothes ready for me and, because the sig.oth. has a different alarm, my cell phone sits charging and poised to go off at 4 AM.
I don't have any tips for you, but would love to hear some others. I don't find it too excessive, 4 am is so early that even the dog groans and glares at me when I get up. |

Funny how a few months can change a routine totally - same project, same location, except I now live far away so I'm up and out at 4:30am to catch two flights. I still do everything on Sunday, so all I have to do is get on Monday, full cycle and hit the road. I find that I get a lot more sleep en route, but I crash real hard around 4pm. |
