Okay, you guys tell me what you think about this...
1.) I have been staffed on a semi-local project starting in 3 weeks
2.) It is 1 hr from home, with hotel stay allowed
3.) It is in a completely different industry than I am interested in focusing on
4.)The project is cheap, with car-sharing, actual expenses, car service strickly prohibited to airport for travelers, etc
5.) This is a 2 yr project, with the lead convinced that I would be in for the long-haul
6.) My res. mgr confirmed me to the project despite my objection for reasons of goals alignment/fit
Has anyone had this happen to them? Do you think there is a safe way out?
I have been with the firm a little over 1 yr, and had a great YE. I have been on big out-of-town projects since my 3rd day with the firm. I am really disappointed, and am worried that I will be miserable for the duration. This project just feels wrong for me. What do you think?
By the way, I am a C and am up for promo this FY. |

So your complaint is what, exactly? That you won't be traveling on a big expense budget and have to learn a new industry?!
You have no idea what a bad project is. Ask someone about TIERS... |

1 hour away with hotel stay allowed? That's incredible, by some city standards. Not sure why you're worrying about car/airport expenses, unless they are letting you do alt travel despite being local.
You'll really screw yourself if you make a big deal about this. If you were really that industry alligned you should have been able to get yourself staffed on your own in the first place. |

Exactly. I live about 1 hour from my engagement now and am here every day. I think since you're more or less on board this project now, you'll probably cause yourself more trouble making anymore of a stink about it. |

Find someone who was on the City of Chicago project (if there are any still left with the firm).
Local, no expense account, 6 days/week, 12hrs+/day.
Have you ever witnessed someone having a real, full on breakdown at work? |
