I was just told that in the UK, promotion happens in January. I was wondering if any of you folks knew why.
Also what do they do when some US or European consultant moves there? Is he/she forced to stick with the same status for a year and a half?
Lets just check -out of curiosity rather than anything else- when do promotions happen around the world.
Europe (non-UK) After summer
UK: January |

I think in the U.S. Consensus is March, April Promotions are April, May
And pay increases are September.
Could be wrong though. |

| UK promotions happen every 6 months (Jan and July) to facilitate those experienced hires and grads who join part way through a year. Also allows the firm to consider people who are progresses at a faster rate than peers and whether early promotion is sensible. |

US reviews happen in May.
Ratings and promotion decisions are communicated in July
Raises are communicated in Sept.
They're talk that the U.S. firm might start promoting in January because we hire a lot of people out of college in Feb. As a Feb Hire analyst might have to wait 2.5 year to become a consultant... |
