What have you all come across for liquidating AMEX points? Last year, when we switched form Diners to Amex, I cashed out using Amazon gift certs. Those were the best value for me since all the actual merchandise is always inflated (or at least list price). Since Amex doesn't give out Amazon GCs (at least not for the full redemption value), what have you all gone for?

I have 80000 points that I earned this year, and while I don't need to cash out right away, I've been itching to use some Wink

TIA!

Don't know about you but I still find my AMEX points useful for Christmas gifts, especially gift cards, say to upper-end clothing lines like Banana, Express, Brooks Brothers, etc, for various people I am buying for... I guess I can't say the 'value' is always that great but I think the pattern seems to be 1000 points per $10.00, is that right? Like Lettuce Entertain You gift cards are 10,000 points for a $100.00 card. Are there any that a better deal on the AMEX site? I haven't found any.

I love the flexibility in this program. You can earn and burn points on most things.

WebFlyer sums up AMEX MR pretty well - A wise man once said, "The only way to eat an elephant is a bite at a time." So when faced with the prospect of digesting a leviathan like American Express, perhaps it's best to begin with small, simple morsels.

The gift certificates are a good option, but they don't include the retailers you would most love to have in there. A good alternative obviously is transfering MR points into miles. Especially look out for the bonus offers if you consider this.

Has anyone else noticed that the Amex points don't seem to go as far as the Diner's Club points? During my first year, I had Diners. I got a video camera, a GameCube, and one of those spacefoam pillows (useless!).

After a full year with the Amex, I can now use my points to buy a novelty pencil or a packet of Pop Rocks.

Just be glad you're getting anything at all. I've been in consulting almost 2 years now and have barely enough to get one pop rock, let alone a pack.

Point taken. Whenever my pop rocks arrive, I'll be sure to share them with the less fortunate.
