Have Status.
Seriously, that's about all you can do besides getting to the airport early. Standby lists are generated in order of (IIRC, could be slightly different) Status, Displaced Passengers (flight cancelled), Class of ticket, Order you showed up. If you're flying coach sans status and just can't make the flight you'll be at the top of the bottom of the list if you get there early.
Alternatively you can call and see about a confirmed flight change 3 hours before the flight. This costs between $20-$50 which you can generally charge to the WBS for your client if you could justify if need be. |
